William Alfred Stephens, 70, of Raleigh passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017, at the home of his youngest son Jason Stephens (wife Sallie). By his side was his former wife and lifelong dearest friend Teresa Wright, daughter Stephanie, son Shane (wife Tiffany), and his three grandsons. He was born in Macon County to the late Aaron Walter Stephens and Myrtle Ray Stephens. He lived the majority of his life in Raleigh, N.C. William was a passionate man who enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be a new construction job or helping his children with a project around their homes. William loved ocean fishing, his favorite charter being Captain Stacey. William fought five battles with cancer. He was tough and a fighter through all obstacles that life threw his way. While undergoing chemo and radiation treatments, William continued working in construction. With his last strength, he built walls along side his son’s until he couldn’t anymore. William was extremely loving and proud of his family. He is survived by his siblings; Bob Stephens (wife Lorraine), Mildred Flynn, Pauline Pentico (husband Maurice), and Frances Farmer (husband Randy). He is also survived by his best friends Timmy Briggs, Robbie Watkins, and Eddie Wright. A Celebration of Life will be held in William’s honor at a later date yet to be determined. A service of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
