William Boyd Creech, Jr.

January 9, 1929 — February 23, 2022

William (Bill) Boyd Creech Jr passed away, unexpectedly, Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Bill was born and raised in Garner, his home for 93 years. A fact he was proud of. Bill was a master plumber. Before retirement, he worked for the NC Department of Correction for 35 years as a plumbing engineer and was the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Bill traveled from Murphy to Manteo, NC, but the best sight he saw was when he pulled back into the driveway of his home. Most people described Bill as a kind, selfless man who would give you the shirt off his back, and the best plumber to call. Bill loved to tell stories of growing up in Garner, traveling across the state and some of his best friends: Sam Penny, B.R. Poole and John Buffaloe. Bill was a volunteer fireman, a cancer survivor and most of all an avid race car fan. Bill and his good friend, Ed Walters, owned and operated a car of their own, and raced at Raleigh Speedway. After Ed retired from racing, Bill joined up with Donald Macon and Harold Williams and car #4. Bill’s love of car racing was a family affair where they spent many Friday and Saturday nights at short tracks in South Boston, Virginia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bill was born on January 9, 1929 to William “Boyd” Creech and Penny Sealey Creech. In 1948, Bill married the love of his life, Carolyn Nordan Creech, who predeceased him in 2017. Bill is survived by his loving and devoted children: William (Billy) Boyd Creech III (Tina,) Debra Creech Springer (Al) and Phillip Wayne Creech (JoAnn); grandchildren: Dallas Boyd Springer (Robbie,) Nina Alison Springer, David Turner Dayberry, Parker Jordan Creech (Whitney,) Samantha Taylor Creech, and Casey Danielle Creech; great grandchildren: Charlotte, Owen and Gavin; nieces: Linda Creech Briggs and Kimberly Creech Steward and many cousins and relatives descended from James and Arabelle Creech. He was preceded in death by his only brother, James Allen Creech (Asa Lee) and nephew, James Allen Creech Jr. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Garner United Methodist Church from 1:00 – 1:45 pm. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm with entombment at Montlawn Memorial Park at 3 pm. Arrangements by Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Garner.
