William David Bingham

William David Bingham, 85, of Raleigh, NC died February 23, 2018 at Transitions Life Care after a brief illness.  David was born on May 2, 1932 at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Wake County to Willie Glenn Bingham and Grace Stearns Bingham.  He graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1950.  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1952 - 1956 and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1959. David worked with the NC Department of Transportation as the State Geotechnical Engineer.  After retiring from the DOT in 1989, he was employed at Law Engineering and held subsequent consulting jobs in his field. David was married to Peggy Perry Haithcock for 62 years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Glenn Stearns Bingham and Frederick Dana Bingham.  He is survived by his wife, Peggy H. Bingham of the home, and two daughters, Lynnette B. Harris and husband, Clif of Wilmington, NC and Dana B. Alexander of Tarboro, NC.  He is also survived and loved by his four grandchildren, Dale A. Harris of Wilmington, NC, William D. Alexander III of Raleigh, NC, Kelly J. Harris of New York City, and M. Grace Alexander of Tarboro, NC. A memorial service will be held at Bryan Lee Funeral Home at 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2 p.m.  There will be a visitation with the family preceding the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.  A private interment will be held with the family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James United Methodist Church of Raleigh, NC or to Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, NC.
