Psalm 116:15 ~ Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Raleigh - Most people knew him as Bill Lassiter. We knew him as Daddy and Papa. Our words are wholly inadequate to describe what he meant to us. He was bigger than life, and he made life special for us in ways too numerous to count. He was the spiritual patriarch of our family. He was the most considerate and giving soul to occupy the earth, and certainly who will ever occupy our lives, hearts and memories. He was a brilliant and personally humble man. He was grateful for every aspect of his life. But perhaps the greatest thing he leaves us in his legacy: · Loving the Church and investing yourself in Kingdom efforts · Making a difference with your life by living to the fullest and living for others, not just yourself William Earl Lassiter was called home to Heaven on March 3, 2014. He has been reunited with our Mom and other family and friends that have gone before him. But most of all, he has gone to be with his Lord. I am confident that upon entering the Lords presence, Daddy heard the words of Matthew 25:23 His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Lords happiness!’ William E. Lassiter retired from the US Postal Service as a Superintendent. His greatest professional accomplishment was the establishment of Lassiter Presort that he started in 1962 as a small operation handling only third class mailings. Presort came in 1977 and was done by hand. In 1986 the corporation was formed and operations expanded. Lassiter Presort went on to process 250,000 pieces of 1st class mail daily. In addition to his love for the Lord and his family, Daddy had a great passion for fishing. He took great pleasure in sharing the experience with family and friends. Daddy was granted the best of everything one could hope for in this life: a long and meaningful span of years with one devoted mate and a large devoted family. Daddy was preceded in death by his wife Bette C. Lassiter; his parents, Eddie Allen and Catherine Lassiter; two sons, John Allison Lassiter and Eddie Howard Lassiter Sr.; two grandsons, Justin Michael Lassiter and Jonathan David Lassiter; his brothers, Ray Lassiter, Jimmy Lassiter and Eddie Lassiter and his sister Pat Carroll. Through great loss, Daddy remained a pillar of strength and grace as he held close to the promise of eternal life through our savior Jesus Christ. He would want each and every one of you to know that the promise of eternal life can be yours too, just by believing in the one true Savior, Jesus Christ. To cherish and contemplate his memory and influence, he is survived by four children: Billy Lassiter, Jr. (wife Bonnie), Tim Lassiter (wife Debbie), Jeff Lassiter (wife Kenni), Bette Ruth L. Carter (husband Tim), daughter-in-law Tricia Lassiter, eight grandchildren, Laurie Layton (husband Eric), Eddie H. Lassiter, Jr. (wife Jaime), Jessica Lewis (husband Anthony), Jeffrey Lassiter (wife Erica), John Lassiter (wife Laci), Christopher Lassiter, Kaylie Carter and Gracie Carter; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kay Smith; and a brother, Doug Lassiter. Daddy lived out Colossians 3:14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. We believe that has yielded a close and caring family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of his life at Longview Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Historic Oakwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Brittany Byrd, who advocated and cared for our dad with alacrity. There are some debts that are so enormous that they can never be repaid in full, even in a small measure- and the devotion of ones family is one of those. In honor of our Daddy, we ask that each of you pay it forward by treating your own loved ones with dignity, kindness and compassionate care for as long as you have strength and resources, for you will not regret a day that you do so.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Longview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2308 New Hope Road., Raleigh, NC 27604.
