William Henry Underhill, Jr.

RALEIGH - William “Bill” Henry Underhill, Jr., 77, of Raleigh, NC, passed away surrounded by his family on

Tuesday, September 20, 2022 after complications from a stroke.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Underhill was born in Washington, DC, on October 23, 1944, to William Sr. and Helen

Underhill.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, Austin, and his very best friend and

beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Max. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karlie Juanita

Underhill, his daughters, Tiffany Underhill Franklin and Jennifer Louise Underhill; his

granddaughters, Riley Nicole Underhill and Lily Monroe Franklin; brother and sister-in-law,

Robert Lee Underhill, Sr. and Deborah Ann Underhill; brother and sister-in-law, Gary Steven

Underhill and Michelle Smith Underhill as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and

cousins.

While attending and after graduating from Campbell University, Bill proudly served six years in

the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He began his career as a Bank Examiner for the FDIC

and subsequently transferred to the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC.

In 2005, after over 35 years of Federal Government service, he retired as a Branch Chief and

relocated with his wife and family to Raleigh.

Bill was a Christian man of faith, and an avid gardener who loved not only planting flowers and

working in his yard, but also providing produce from the local farmer’s market to his wonderful

friends and neighbors. He was known as the neighborhood dog whisperer who always had

treats in his pockets and a fresh bowl of water for any and all furry visitors. He enjoyed

baseball, fishing, and cooking chicken and dumplings with his granddaughters.

He is deeply missed by family, friends, and neighbors.
