William Steel Lane, Sr.

GARNER - William Steel Lane Senior (Bill), age 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Garner, NC on December 13, 2020. William was the son of George William Lane and Mavin Wray Lane. He was a native of Dudley, Wayne County, NC where he attended Brogden Primary School in 1939. William retired as a foreman with Stackhouse Incorporated. During his life, William devoted his love to his family. Family ties, family traditions, and reuniting generations to generations was most important to him. He started the Lane family reunion which was held annually in June, cooking barbeque pork pig on the grill with all the fixings. Other than his family, William enjoyed outdoor wildlife, hunting, fishing, and taking trips to the beach and mountains. He was a lover of the beagle breed and was known for his vast knowledge of his bloodline Beagles in North Carolina. William became an avid rabbit hunter early in life. His hobbies quickly supplemented his income by breeding, training, and trading his rabbit canines. His favorite quote was, “A man is only as good as his word”. William was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Sara Ann Benton Lane after 65 years of marriage. Three sisters, Beulah Jackson, Patricia Dyess, and Katherine Veil; Four brothers, Joseph Lane, Jacob Lane, Durwood Gene Lane, and Robert Lee Lane (aka Toe). William is survived by one daughter and three sons, Shelby Jean Lane Payne, William Steel Lane Jr (aka Buddy), George William Lane (Julie), and Carl Gene Lane Sr (Kim); six grandchildren, Crystalina Lechel Lane Ritter, Carl Gene Lane Jr, Sabrina Nicole Carlin, Travis Calvin Lane, Britney Marilyn Lane, and George Nathaniel Lane. Thirteen great grandchildren, Breandon Gage Lee Jones, Candace Breyanna Noell Jones, William Anthony Omega Lane, Jasmine Marie Belle Ritter, Seth William Beyer, Adam Wyatt Lane, Ayden Kelly Lane, Cameron Michael Carlin, Grayson Rhett Carlin Martin, Emma Rose Lane, Waylon Lee Lane, Adelyn Grace Lane, and Salem Steele Lane. William is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth Lane and David John Lane, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces. Due to COVID-19, graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 19 th at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton, NC. The service will be officiated by Bishop Wayne Huntley and Senior Pastor Bryan Ballestero.
