William Watson Jones, Sr.

On Monday, September 19th, William “Bill” Watson Jones, Sr. passed away surrounded by family. He was eighty-nine years old. Bill was born on May 6th, 1933 to Charles and Louise Jones in Elizabeth City, NC. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother Charles Jones.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Rosemary Jones; his son William (Watt) Watson Jones, Jr. (Cheri) of Jamestown, TN; his son Charles Leigh Jones of North Myrtle Beach, SC; his daughter Deborah Jones Moore (Eric) of Garner, NC; his grandson Lee Finn, granddaughter Carey Winfree, grandson Addison Moore and grandson Heath Jones as well as his eight great-grandchildren.

Bill served as a member of the United States Coast Guard until 1957. He continued his career as a General Manager of the Ramada Inn and Holiday Inn in various towns. He retired from the North Carolina State Park Services at Jockey’s Ridge in Nags Head, NC in 2010.

In his early years, Bill was a member of the Shriner’s of Dunn, NC and was a 32nd degree Mason. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Nags Head, NC. Bill was an avid Redskins fan and HAM radio operator (NC4CDL).

Services will be held on Saturday, September 24th at Holland’s United Methodist Church (9433 Ten-Ten Road Raleigh, NC 27603). Visitation will be from 10-11 AM with the funeral service to follow. A private graveside service will be held at a later date for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 3HC Hospice Services of Goldsboro, NC.
