Wyatt K. Dr. Harper

Dr. Wyatt Kelly Harper passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 14, 2016. He was born February 17, 1947 in Kinston, NC.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Methodist College, two Master’s Degrees from East Carolina University and his Doctorate from UNC-Greensboro.  He taught and coached at Daniels Middle School, Carnage Middle School and Sanderson High school in Raleigh.  He served as Director of Transportation for the Wake County Public School System for the remainder of his career. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00am at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh. Dr David Hailey will officiate. Burial will be private. He was preceded in death by his father Troy E. Harper and mother Ruby Kelly Harper of Deep Run, NC. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Harper; his son, Michael Harper and wife, Jaclyn and granddaughter Ava of Raleigh; his daughter, Dr. Rebecca Harper Otto, husband Barret and grandchildren Jax and Kinsley of Garner, NC.  He is also survived by his sister Dr. Margaret Harper, husband Dr. Don Lendle of Winston-Salem; nephew, Dr. Sam Lendle of Berkley, Ca and his sister in law Terri Rhoades of Raleigh, and many cousins.  A special thanks is given to his long time care giver Margaret Baker, the Visiting Angels, and for the compassionate and loving care from the staff of The Laurels of Forest Glenn. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45am at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hayes Barton Baptist Church or the SPCA of Wake County in his name.
