Zelma Woolard Elks

Zelma Woolard Elks age 83, died peacefully March 11, 2012 in the Stewart Health Center at Springmoor Life Retirement Community in Raleigh, NC. She courageously fought lung cancer for four years. Zelma was born in Washington, NC and is the daughter of Lizzie and McCoy Woolard. She is survived by her husband Charles B. Elks of 65 years, 3 sons C. Bryant Elks Jr. and wife Ann of Kenner, LA, Keith Elks and wife Debra of Raleigh, Tom Elks and wife Pam of Raleigh, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She also is survived byher sister Vivian Leggett of Elizabeth City, NCandher brother Ben Woolard of Washington, NC. She graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and continued her education at Hardbarger Business College. A person of strong faith, she was a very active member of Forest Hills Baptist Church for 52 years. Throughout her life she was a happy, loveable, wonderful wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. The family will receive visitors at Forest Hills Baptist Church on Wednesday March 14, 2012 at 12:30PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00PM. Interment will be at Raleigh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church, Hospice of Wake County, or the Springmoor Endowment Fund. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care she received from the Rex Cancer Center, Hospice of Wake County, and the Stewart Health Center at Springmoor Retirement Community.
